In April 2021 I built and hung a Poetry Box outside my home. I wanted to share the joy and power of poetry with friends and anyone walking by. The form is familiar, a cross between an announcement board and a “Little Free Library” box. I change the poem every 10 days or so. As time passes I’ve enjoyed many conversations with people who are surprised and delighted by the poems and artistic embellishments. I’ve received gift cards in thanks, poems from neighbors, and best of all a poem left by a young child. The Poetry Box is, for me, a social practice art piece that appeals to everyone.
